diy / christmas stockings

materials:
- base fabric (thick cotton muslin)
- fold fabric (black jersey cotton)
- stencil sheet
- exacto knife
- thread
- sewing machine
- fabric paint & sponge brush
optional extras:
- yarn pom poms
- bells

first i cut out my stockings leaving some room on the sides for sewing. then i created a stencil by drawing little trees and arranging them on the stencil sheet, and cutting them out. for the names on the stocking, i picked a font i liked and printed out the letters big enough to cut. using fabric paint and a sponge is the easiest way to get the little corners.
i used the pattern and sewing tutorial from [craftaholics anonymous

i made the stockings to match a project from last year. this is our giving tree christmas countdown. its a way to teach lincoln that giving is a lot more fun than getting. every 5th day we do something charitable together and make a memory while helping others.
more about the giving tree christmas countdown in a previous [diy post]
