that feeling you get when you are so proud of someone it hurts.

this little boy has a glowing aura that draws people in.

he loves to make everyone laugh, and will put on a show at the drop of a hat.

he is sweet as sugar and has a sour little attitude with a punch.

this little leo is honestly my soul mate.

we have this connection that is unmatched.

i want this boy to have the world.

he has taught me what love is and what love means.

i will continue to teach him to love, create, explore.

diy / natural dye easter eggs

 

i tend to avoid projects that become too much of a hassle / mess. making your own egg dye, is way more simple than i imagined. i've seen so many interesting natural ingredients to change the color of white eggs, we had to do some experimenting ourselves. 

if your up for a science experiment, using food you probably already have, keep scrolling... 

 

 

materials:

- 12 white eggs (brown eggs work too, not as strong of a color)

- 6 - 8 cups

- 2 tbsp of natural ingredient

- 1.5 tbsp of vinegar (brightens the color)

- marker for decorating

 natural ingredients (in order of brightest natural dye):

- Turmeric

- Beets

- Blueberries

- Grape Juice

- Cabbage

- Spinach

- Coffee (i think this would make a nice color, but i ended up drinking it instead of dying, oops)

we weren't very patient and soaked them for 10-15 min. the longer you soak the darker the color.

Ok Turmeric and Beets are the JAM. If we left these in over night they would probably be NEON yellow and pink. Not so excited by either the spinach or the cabbage. Cabbage actually dyes blue, but I found that the blueberries did a better job. Grape juice did a great job as well. I like that they all came out pastel colors and sort of matched.

we let them dry. and gave them some ink.

monday munchies / lucky charm treats

 

we had a st patty's play date and decided to bring a tasty green treat.

ingredients:

-  6 cups of limited edition st patty green lucky charms (or reg lucky charms)

- 5 tbsp of butter

- 1 bag / 10 oz of marshmallows (big or small)

- 1 bag / 11 oz [ghirardelli] white chocolate

- 10-15 drops of green food coloring (light green or dark green)

melt butter in a pot, add marshmallows. mix until marshmallows are melted. add lucky charms, mix. 

pour into a  greased cake pan/ cookie sheet. let cool. cut in squares, or triangles. melt white chocolate in microwave. set to 1 min, stir, another min and stir. you dont want to burn it, but you also want it a smooth consistency. the broiler in the over works the same way, but the microwave is a little quicker.

add food coloring to the white chocolate. dip your squares / triangle treats in the white / green chocolate until its about half way submerged. let it cool completely on a piece of parchment paper. enjoy! toddlers, keep some green chocolate on your face for later, or so you don't get pinched ;)

"super love" valentines brunch

 

we decided to celebrate valentines day by playing dress up with our friends.

linc helped me make the decorations, we found sticker valentines and cut out hearts.

after googling/ pinning ideas for a "superhero valentines" party, 

i found this great mask idea from [100 layer cake]

 

last minute sewing velcro on the capes with my craft team. gotta start them young.

 

DIY cape table. heart cut outs, lightning bolt stencils, scissors, hot glue.. 

 

of course Linc is being a two year old and NOT wearing his mask... 

even though he wears a mask and cape the other 364 days of the year... 

 

 this was the beginning spread. it was a 'pot luck' sort of brunch party. everyone brought delicious food and I was too busy eating to take photos. amelia hooked it up with pancake balls.

 

the perks of having a baker for a friend. amanda did an amazing job with these personalized cookies!

diy / no cook, no applesauce, cinnamon ornaments

not going to lie. we started out with just apple sauce and cinnimon. i made these things in kindergarten and remembered only using cinnimon and apple sauce... well this didn't go as planned.

olivia and linc tried their best to roll a ball, pat it down, roll it out... nothing. 

BUT we did come up with an awesome recipe that worked even better.

 cinnamon ornament without apple sauce:

• 1 cup of flour
• 1/2 cup of salt
• 1/2 cup of cinnamon
• 3/4 cup of very warm water

      knead, roll, cookie cut. make sure you take a straw or stick to make your holes to hang the string from. let dry for about 2 days. one day each side. paint them or color with markers. i included the year in permanent marker. i gave linc red and green, and he decided to mix the colors and create a grey brown poopy color. but it was made with love, and it will hang on our tree forever.
